Start on the loosest row of hooks for 1 to 2 hours a day, and add time as it feels comfortable. Move to a tighter row only when the one you're on feels easy. Take it off right away if you feel pain, numbness, dizziness or shortness of breath.
A waist trainer shapes your waist while you wear it and adds posture and core support. It's comfortable when it fits, and it should never hurt. If it's your first one, check your size on the size chart before you start.
How to put it on
- Put on a thin, fitted tank or bodysuit. It keeps sweat off the trainer and makes the hooks easier to close.
- Wrap the trainer around your waist with the hooks at the front. Line it up so it sits between your ribs and your hips.
- Start at the bottom. Close the bottom hook on the loosest row first, then work your way up one hook at a time.
- Breathe out as you close each hook. Don't hold your breath.
- Sit down and check. It should stay in place without digging into your ribs or hips.

A new trainer is stiff, and the first few times the hooks take effort. That's normal, and it gets easier as the trainer breaks in.
“So glad I purchased this waist cincher. At first it was difficult to get on but it does stretch a little, so don't give up. Great back support. So glad I got one”
Your first week
There's no prize for wearing it longest on day one. Give your body time to get used to the feel.
| Stage | How long | Hook row | Move on when |
|---|---|---|---|
| First wears | 1 to 2 hours a day | Loosest | It feels comfortable for the whole time |
| Building up | Add a little time at a time | Loosest | You can sit, walk and breathe easily |
| Settled in | As long as it stays comfortable | Next row in | The row you're on feels easy |
Many customers wear Daily Sculpt for a full workday once they're used to it. Get there slowly. If a day feels uncomfortable, go back to a shorter wear. More detail in how long to wear a waist trainer.
How tight should it feel?
- Snug and firm: you feel held in, and you can still breathe, talk and sit normally.
- Too tight: it pinches, you can't take a full breath, or you feel numbness or tingling. Go back to a looser row or take it off.
- Too loose: it slides, rolls, or you're on the tightest row and still don't feel much hold. You may need a smaller size.
- Still unsure? See how tight a waist trainer should be.
When to move to the next row of hooks
Most of our trainers have three rows of hooks. Move in one row when the row you're on feels easy for your usual wear time, not before. Trainers loosen a little as they break in, so moving in is how you keep the same hold.
Wearing it to work out
Choose a trainer made to move. Active Sculpt is flexible latex that bends through squats and cardio, and the Neoprene line adds a warm lining for sweat sessions. Wear it over a fitted top, sip water through your workout, and take it off if you can't breathe deeply. A waist trainer isn't a lifting belt, so don't rely on it for heavy lifts. For work, errands or under a dress, choose a trainer that lies flat. Daily Sculpt is smooth under fitted clothes and scrubs. Pick the right height for your torso so the edges don't show or dig in when you sit. The torso length guide shows you how.

“The size was a perfect fit. The item shipped quickly and I love it! I can wear mine all day!”
When to take it off
- Right away if you feel pain, numbness, tingling, dizziness or shortness of breath.
- Before bed. Don't sleep in a waist trainer. Here's why you shouldn't sleep in one.
- For a big meal, if it feels uncomfortable. Put it back on later or the next day.
- If you're pregnant, don't wear one. If you're postpartum or managing a medical condition, ask your doctor before you start.
- If it hurts to close, don't force it to the next row. Stay where it's comfortable.
When it starts to feel loose
Trainers loosen as they break in, and bodies change. If you're on the tightest row and it still feels loose, try one size down. Exchanges only cover unworn trainers, so a worn trainer that's now loose isn't exchangeable. That's why it's worth getting the size right the first time.
Keep it fresh
Let your trainer air out after each wear, and hand wash it when it needs it. How to clean a waist trainer covers the steps and what to avoid so it lasts.
How many hours a day should I wear it?
Start with 1 to 2 hours on the loosest hooks and build up as it feels comfortable. There's no set number to reach. Comfort decides.
Can I wear it under clothes?
Yes. Daily Sculpt is made to sit smooth under fitted clothes. A thin tank underneath keeps it comfortable and clean.
Should it hurt?
No. It should feel snug and firm, never painful. Pain, numbness or trouble breathing mean you should take it off.
Which hook row do I start on?
The loosest one. Move in one row only when that row feels easy.
Can I sleep in a waist trainer?
No. Take it off before bed.
