Hand wash your waist trainer in cool water with a little mild soap, then press the water out with a towel and let it air dry flat, out of direct sun. Never put it in the washing machine or the dryer. Between washes, air it out after every wear and freshen the inside.

If the care label on your trainer says something different from this guide, follow the label.

After every wear

  1. Take it off and open it out flat, inside facing up.
  2. Wipe or spray the inside, where it touched your skin.
  3. Let it air dry completely before you close it up or put it away.

Spray & Go Trainer Cleaner is a plant-based spray made for this. Spray the inside after you wear it, let it air dry, and it's fresh for tomorrow.

How to deep clean it, step by step

Do this when it smells, looks marked, or after a run of sweaty workouts.

  1. Close the hooks (and the zip, if it has one) so they don't snag the fabric.
  2. Fill a sink or basin with cool water and add a small amount of mild soap.
  3. Lay the trainer in the water and gently rub the inside with your hands or a soft cloth. Focus on the side that touches your skin.
  4. Drain the soapy water and rinse in clean cool water until no soap is left.
  5. Lay it on a clean towel, roll the towel up and press to take out the water. Don't wring or twist it.
  6. Lay it flat to dry, away from direct sun, heaters and radiators. Turn it over so both sides dry.
  7. Wait until it's completely dry, inside and out, before you wear or store it.

Neoprene and latex-free trainers

The Neoprene line has a latex outer and a neoprene lining. The lining holds sweat, so air it out lining-side up after every wear and hand wash it the same way as above.

Our latex-free trainers, Luxx Hourglass (powernet) and Invisible Zip & Clip, both close with a zip. Close it before you wash, hand wash in cool water, and dry flat. Not sure what your trainer is made of? The latex vs latex-free guide lists every line.

How to store it

  • Make sure it's fully dry first.
  • Close the hooks so they don't catch on other clothes.
  • Store it flat in a drawer, away from heat and sun.
  • Don't fold it in half or crush it under heavy things. That can bend the boning.

When to replace it

  • Hooks are bent, loose or missing, so it won't close evenly.
  • The latex is cracked or torn, or the fabric has holes.
  • A bone pokes through or has snapped.
  • It's on the tightest row and still feels loose. That may mean you need a smaller size rather than a new trainer of the same size.

Can I put my waist trainer in the washing machine?

No. The machine can bend the boning and damage the hooks and latex. Hand wash it in cool water with a little mild soap.

How often should I wash it?

Air it out and freshen the inside after every wear. Hand wash it when it starts to smell or look marked, and more often if you sweat in it a lot.

Why does my waist trainer smell?

Usually sweat trapped in the lining. Let it dry completely after every wear, use a trainer spray on the inside, and hand wash it. Never store it damp.

Can I dry it with a hair dryer?

No. Heat damages latex and elastic. Lay it flat and let it air dry at room temperature.
