To start waist training, all you need is a trainer in the right size and torso length. Add a thin tank to wear underneath and a spray to keep it fresh. A cream, a sweat wrap, a second trainer or an extra belt are optional, and only worth it if they fit how you'll actually wear your trainer.

We sell all of those extras, so we'll be straight about which ones matter. None of them, ours included, change your body on their own. They make wearing a trainer more comfortable, fresher or more fun. Training and nutrition do the rest.

Step 1: the trainer (the only must-have)

Pick it by how you'll wear it most. Then get the fit right, because a trainer in the wrong length rolls and digs in no matter what you pair it with.

Worth adding from day one

A trainer is latex against a sweaty body for hours, so the first things to add are about keeping it fresh. Wear a thin tank underneath and spray the inside after each wear with Spray & Go. That's most of what keeps a trainer smelling clean.

Nice to have, if they fit your routine

Tight & Toned Cream is a warming cream most customers pair with their trainer for workouts. Massage it in and let it soak in before you hook in. The Thermo Wrap adds a sweaty, warm layer for training. Both are about how the session feels. If you're curious what creams can and can't do, read do sweat creams work first.

The Mini Squeez Belt is for later. Get comfortable in your trainer first, then add it on days you want extra cinch.

What to skip

  • Anything that promises permanent results or a set number of inches.
  • A smaller size "to grow into". It strains the hooks and won't close comfortably.
  • Two full trainers stacked on top of each other.
  • Sleeping in your trainer. We don't recommend it.

Your first week

Start on the loosest row of hooks for an hour or two, and build up only while it's comfortable. The how to wear a waist trainer guide has the step-by-step.

What do I need to start waist training?

One trainer in the right size and torso length, and a thin tank to wear under it. A trainer spray helps keep it fresh. Everything else is optional.

Do I need a waist trainer cream?

No. A cream is optional. Some people like the warm feel during workouts. It doesn't change what the trainer does.

Should my first trainer be latex or latex-free?

Latex gives the firmest hold and most of our trainers use it. If you have a latex allergy or sensitive skin, choose a latex-free trainer.

Is a waist trainer kit worth it?

Only if you'd buy the pieces anyway. If you want two trainers, or a trainer plus a cream and wrap, a kit costs less than buying them separately. If you just want to try a trainer, start with one.

What should I wear under a waist trainer?

A thin, smooth tank or cami. It keeps sweat and creams off the trainer and is easy to wash.
